Creating Categories¶
Categories provide a robust way to organize and manage various elements within the platform. They help in maintaining a structured approach to campaign management and ensure that all components are easily trackable.
Info
When creating Categories, it's essential to use clear and strategic naming conventions. This helps in easily identifying and managing different elements.
Steps¶
- In the Mautic dashboard, click on the settings icon and select Categories from the menu.
- On the top right corner of the Categories page, click the "New" button to initiate the category creation process.
- Choose whether you want to create a "Global" category that applies to all Mautic elements or a specific category for individual elements like Segments, Emails, or Assets.
- Enter category details:
- Title: Provide a clear and descriptive name for the category, following your naming conventions.
- Description (optional): Add a brief description to provide more context about the category's purpose. It may be useful when working with large teams.
- Alias: Mautic automatically generates a URL-friendly alias based on the title, but you can modify it if needed.
- Color: Assign a color to the category for quick visual identification in other views.
- Available for use: Toggle the switch status to "Yes".
- After entering all the necessary details, click the Save & Close button to create the category.
Warning
The only current way of setting Categories for Dynamic Content is to create a Global Category.
Results¶
A new category is created and listed on the Categories page, becoming available for assignment to various Mautic elements, depending on the chosen type (Global or specific).
Success
Establish a well-thought-out category strategy before creating them to ensure consistency and maintainability as your Mautic instance grows. Consider using a hierarchical naming structure and color-coding to make categories more intuitive and user-friendly.
